Start mission of monitoring the Amazon Vision Program

Representatives of the KfW World Development Bank and the governments of Norway and the United Kingdom that financially support the Amazon Vision program come to Colombia to learn the progress of the initiative.
The meeting will serve to analyze the work done so far, the challenges of the program and continue articulating efforts to reach the zero net deforestation goal for 2020.

Bogotá, D.C. September 13, 2017. (MADS). The monitoring mission of the REM Amazon Vision was installed, which will last until September 22 and aims to analyze the advances, challenges and commitments of the program to reduce deforestation in the Colombian Amazon through a sustainable development model that encourages low productive alternatives to deforestation, promotes territorial and forest management and improves the living conditions of local populations among other key actions for this area of ​​the country.
The Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development Luis Gilberto Murillo, who accompanied the opening of the event, presented the progress of the control strategy to deforestation, where he invited to link the communities in this process and called on the governors and mayors of the Amazon so that in support with the environmental authorities they lead the actions that stop the deforestation in this part of the country. The minister also stressed the importance of developing this mission in order to strengthen the program, “which will undoubtedly change the perspective of environmental projection in the Amazon region.”
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development Carlos Alberto Botero stressed the importance of control and monitoring of deforestation, and the progress of the program that will contribute to improving the environmental and socio-economic situation of the ecoregion.
During eight days Visión Amazonia will hold meetings with government entities and local and social authorities that support the implementation of the initiative, as well as with the communities that will benefit directly from it.
